Casshern Sins בעבר הרחוק והנשכח, האדם הפיח חיים במכונה והמכונה גברה עליו וגזלה את מקומו בעולם. גזע הרובוטים הפך את בני-האדם לעבדים והם הפכו לנתיניו של בראיקינג בוס האדיר.
כשהגיעה לאוזני בראיקינג בוס שמועה על משיחה מופלאה בקרב בני האדם, הוא שלח את שלושת לוחמיו הטובים ביותר לרצחה.
דיו, לדה וקאשרן יצאו למרדף אחר משיחת בני האדם, לונה, "השמש שהיא הירח", וקאשרן היה זה שכוחו הספיק כדי להרגה. אבל מותה של לונה הצית שורה של אסונות שהביאו לסופו של העולם כפי שאנו מכירים אותו כיום. מאות שנים לאחר מכן, האטמוספירה רעילה והעולם הוא שריד מפויח שהחיים בו נדירים במקרה הטוב.
מעט בני-האדם השורדים עושים זאת בקושי, ובעיות פוריות קשות לצד התקפות חוזרות ונשנות של כנופיות רובוטים חסרי מעש, מביאות את המין האנושי לסף הכחדה.
מצבם של הרובוטים לא טוב יותר – האוויר הרעיל גורם לחלקיהם להחליד ולהתפורר והם חייבים למצוא חלפים ללא הפסקה.
לעולם זה מתעורר קאשרן, שנעלם לאחר ההתנקשות בלונה, ומוחו ריק מזכרונות. הוא אינו יודע מי הוא, היכן הוא או מה עשה. כעת עליו לצאת למסע של גילויים, שעתיד לחשוף את תפקידו בעיצוב גורל העולם.
